ABOUT US

Odyssey Barbell Club opened in 2018 as a dedicated powerlifting gym featuring full competition-grade equipment. As we’ve grown, we’ve expanded into a fully equipped training facility with a wide range of machines and cardio options to support every type of lifter.

We offer Personal Training and Powerlifting Coaching without pushy sales or the hassles of commercial gyms. For over 8 years, we’ve stayed committed to our mission: providing a clean, high-quality space with an uplifting environment and respectful members. We focus on constant improvement and meticulous care for the club, while giving members the freedom to train their own way.

Owned and operated by Eric LaPointe - a strength coach and competitive drug-free powerlifter, alongside a small, dedicated team.

About the Owner:

Eric began lifting in 2008 after leaving high school, using training to create structure during a challenging time. By 18, he was on his own, balancing full time work with a growing commitment to the gym. From early on he prioritized staying current with strength research and its practical application.

In 2013, he self-coached his way to earning his natural bodybuilding pro card, becoming the youngest IFPA pro at the time. He transitioned to powerlifting in 2014, winning Best Lifter at his first meet and placing 5th at nationals just two months later. Around this time, he also began programming for others to build coaching experience.

Since then, Eric has competed in 10 consecutive national meets with multiple podium finishes, including six Arnold Classic appearances and a gold medal. He has held American records in the deadlift (75kg class, both junior and open) and won an Open Raw National Title in 2022. His athletes’ success has also earned him multiple “Best Team” awards at national competitions.

In 2018, he founded Odyssey Barbell Club. For the first three years, he balanced a full-time job, a full coaching roster, and running the gym as it grew. Today, Odyssey is recognized as a premier powerlifting gym, known for its clean-cut, respectful culture and high-energy training environment.

Eric also serves as Co-State Chair for USA Powerlifting in New Hampshire, helping develop referees and introduce new lifters to the sport. Since 2019, he has directed over 25 successful meets to date. Since his first time directing and giving lifters their choice of walkout songs, he has consistently innovated and improved the lifters experience, playing a major role in raising the standard for local meet production around new england.

He lives in Salem, NH near the gym with his wife Amanda and their cat, Bub.
